How many gentle flowers grow in an English country garden?
Well our own little petals started our secret garden week with a rowing activity to strengthen those neck muscles and that core- once we were nice and warmed up, our sensory babies explored Astro-turf texture while playing with our Pom-pom flowers, allowing those little hand muscles to squeeze and release and those little toes to wriggle in the grass.
Visually they watched inflatable bunnies hopping around them and joined in with classic nursery rhyme “hop little bunnies”- which worked those core and neck muscles again while building rhyme and rhythm and building on linguistic pathways. Rhythm and tempo were also then explored using our animal themed castanets which were a brand new sound experience for some of our little ones.
Our babies were very excited to have their hands tickled by real life daffodils! This natural resource introduced the heuristic play concept to parents, encouraging them to look for other “non-toy” resources for babies to explore at home and continue into toddlerhood for more opportunities for imaginative, open ended play. They also loved the smell and feel of the petals on their tiny palms.
Pastel colour balloons and bubbles floated around babies for an extra visual treat- the babies were fascinated by the reflections and the way the gravity concept doesn’t seem to apply.
The session ended as our lovely tickly parachute acted like “rain” falling down on our little babies after their secret garden adventure.
After all that hard work, our little bunnies were all ready for a nap- sleep tight little ones 🐰
